Mwen Renmen... Como?
Hey family!
Que lo que? My companion and I have been working on me learning more Spanish and Creol and her learning more English. It has been an adventure, especially because I´m trying to learn Creol in Spànish. Phew, it is quite the work. She tried to teach me how to say ¨ I love you a lot¨ and I think it took me about five minutes to learn how to pronounce it. It reminded me of Anna trying to teach me how to say ´¨my name is¨in French in the back of Eli´s car the first time we met Shih Ping and it took me the whole drive from the McGregors to Logan to say it. My companion is amazing, along with teaching me Creol, she has been teaching me how to cook like a Dominican. The members here call us ¨leche con chocolate¨ or milk with chocolate.
We´ve had some difficult lessons this week, mostly because we had to move the baptismal dates for a few of our investgators but we had the chance to find a lot of cool people here. We´ve been teaching a lot of Haitian families this week because my companion can actually teach them and they understand. We had another investigator, D, who wants to be baptized but can´t because she doesn´t have the permission from her parents, but we also had a young couple we are teaching, M and J, decide that they want to get married and be baptized. Woohoo! It will probably be at the end of the month, which is good because it will give us time to plan every thing for the wedding and prepare everything.
Some cool news is that we found out that Elder Cook, from the Twelve Apostles, is coming to visit our mission on the 11 of November. I´m really excited to get to hear from him. It will be a cool experience.
Here in the DR they don´t celebrate Halloween (or Thanksgiving), so the next holiday is Christmas and everyone is starting to decorate for Chrismas. It is weird to see because to me it still feels like June here. There is a house we pass almost everyday that reminds me of the Christmas Extravanganza book we used to read for Christmas. They have a ton of stuffed Christmas decorations and trees. It is kind of crazy. Speaking of holidays, I´m excited to see all of your guys´ fun Halloween plans and costumes. I´m also so so excited to find out if Sam and Kiana are having a boy or a girl. I´m going to take a risk and guess that it will be a girl, but I guess I´ll find out next week. ;) I can´t tell you how excited I am to find out and to be able to know if I´ll come home to a new niece or nephew. Either way, I am excited and can´t wait to hear.
I love you all and hope you have a great week! Happy Halloween!
Mi companion, my zone, the crazy Christmas house and a pretty view from the top of a hill in my area.
